Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defence official has revealed that the MoD is currently looking into the possible threats posed by Chinese cars, while staff have been advised to refrain from discussing secret information in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a concern in every modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Background

This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader security situation highlights the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official operations, from vehicle use to communication habits.
